Our Pre-K classroom provides a comfortable environment for children to confidently express themselves and share their unique interests and ways of thinking. Special attention is given to helping children to develop a high level of self-confidence and independence. Conflict resolution skills and appropriate use of language are focused on daily as well as during weekly Small Group activity sessions. Whole group meeting time and special project presentations encourage children to become more comfortable speaking in front of a group of peers.
Our play-based curriculum allows children to explore aspects of literacy, mathematics, science and the arts in an engaging way driven by their own curiosity. Small group time allows our teachers to focus on each child’s individual development using games and fun activities to make learning exciting. Children will continue work on beginning reading skills, such as letter and letter sound recognition, math skills, including number recognition, patterning and simple addition. Beginning writing skills are focused on during both individual and whole group learning opportunities. Children’s development is regularly assessed and parents are communicated with on a regular basis, both informally and formally.
We strive to make the transition to kindergarten as smooth as possible for each child and family. We recognize that the change elicits a wide range of emotions. Our experienced staff is ready to support each child as he or she takes the next step after their time at Wellesley Hills Center for Early Education.
